Extreme Mustang Makeover and Mustang Magic Shows
By Chris, Five Star Ranch Staff Writer
If you are a horse person and you haven’t been to one of the Mustang Makeover shows, you’re missing out. Wild mustang horses are a national treasure. They are beautiful gallant animals and the Mustang Makeover events showcase the horses and the talents of horse trainers who specialize in working with mustangs.
There are a variety of the Mustang events (Mustang Magic, Mustang Makeover, Extreme Mustang Makeover, etc) that are sponsored by the Mustang Heritage Foundation, a non-profit with the mission of facilitating successful adoptions of the American Mustang. The Mustang Heritage Foundation works with the Bureau of Land Management on the adoption programs.
BLM estimates upward of 38,000 mustangs are roaming loose in ten western states. Another 35,000 horses are in holding pens awaiting adoption. The Mustang shows are a competition where trainers who have had 100 days to tame and train a wild mustang show off their trained horses. Many of the shows have adoption auctions after the show.
I’ve been lucky enough to attend several of the shows and I’ve been extremely impressed by both the horses and the talented trainers. If you are interested in attending one of these show, check out the Mustang Heritage Foundation and Extreme Mustang Makeover websites to find a show near you.
